The Underground Project (2015) is a documentary film that explores the journey of emerging musicians striving for success, while also examining the social practices that influence their culture. Filmed across New York City's five boroughs, Newark, and my hometown of Houston, Texas, this short film critiques the hyper-masculine standards prevalent in the mainstream hip hop industry.
Awards: Juror's Choice, Parsons' Senior Photography Exhibition at Thierry-Goldberg Gallery.
Bedstuy Blue is a personal documentary project that delves into the lives of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community in Brooklyn, where I had the privilege of living from 2015 to 2017. This series engages with and investigates the impacts of gentrification—a process in which the influx of more affluent residents and businesses leads to the transformation and often displacement of long-standing communities.
Through personal interviews and observations, the project captures how gentrification reshaped the neighborhood and its essence, seeking to understand the perspectives of residents experiencing these changes.
